The Tibetan Bridge in Matera
Among the most beautiful and evocative walks that can be taken in Matera is the excursion to the Tibetan bridge.
All those who decide to visit the Sassi, whether it is a one-day touch and go or staying for several days, must necessarily consider a visit to the Tibetan bridge in Matera.
Reaching the bridge at the bottom of the Gravina di Matera means a walk of about an hour with appropriate clothing, we recommend closed shoes and long trousers.
Those staying at our hotel in Matera will be able to get an idea of the distance and route to the Tibetan bridge right from the start, as it is clearly visible from our panoramic terrace with a complete view of the Sassi of Matera, the Murgia park and the Gravina right where the bridge is located.
The Tibetan Bridge was built in 2015 in order to unite the Sassi side of Matera with the Murgia side so that the guests of the city of the Sassi could fully enjoy thenaturalistic experience offered by this splendid city.
The path to the Tibetan Bridge
The path is taken in the Sasso Caveoso and is characterised by rocks and soil, so shoes suitable for this type of terrain are recommended.
The duration of the trail obviously depends on your pace but it takes about an hour considering the descent, the footbridge over the bridge and the ascent.
Once you have crossed the Tibetan bridge, you can continue the path up the Murgia slope to the Belvedere di Murgia Timone where there are rock churches and natural caves to visit. From this point you can take beautiful photos of the Sasso Caveoso.
